We Dance

This poem spilled out of me a while back. Thought it was worth a re-visit:

"We Dance"

I am no racist
I do not see color
until it is
pushed
upon me

But the brown people
have to push
to catch up
How can they
not push?

I am no sexist
but I love
women especially
for their
beautiful softness

Women are behind
because they are weaker
in their arms
but not
in their hearts

I do not make fun
of the crazy,
the retarded, the lame
for I am one
of them

They speak softly
teaching freedom
from ego with
careful words
and injured eyes

Our tribe is endless
if we let it be so
in all its colors
in all its shapes
We dance
